Marley's DNA Test Came Back!!!

FEMALE!!! I was wrong this whole time. My poor husband is the only boy in our whole house and is now having to battle it out with 6 females! Poor guy. I know the tests can sometimes be wrong, and I still think Marley has lots of boy behaviors, but for now I'm going to assume girl!!! She also said he...

Considering a Second IRN

I've been thinking about getting a second IRN for a while now, and recently I saw a post for one on Craigslist that includes his cage for an adoption fee of $100. He's 5 months old so that makes him about the same age as Marley. We are gone a lot during the day (8 hours 3 days a week) so I was wonde...

It's not quite like that. What he does is he'll walk up to cupboard #1, rub up against it, then take a few steps back and waddle over to the next one, and repeat this over and over. Then at other times he'll just stand in the middle of the kitchen and stare at them lovingly. He's weird. Okay, I was ...

He's In Love With the Cabinets

Whenever I bring Marley into the great room the first thing he does is fly off and go into the kitchen. He then proceeds to walk around on the floor and rub up against every single one of the cabinets. He'll go back and forth rubbing up on them (there's 5 total on the ground level). Is this okay for...

Marley is 3 months old and he's doing this with my husband. What we do is take our remote control for the TV (which he likes to play with) and let him attack that. Once he gets it out of his system he gets nicer for a bit. When he gets rowdy again we put the remote between us again. I think it is bl...

Bluffing and Eye Question

Marley seems to have entered his bluffing stage already. He's turning 3 months old this week. Is that too early for it? I'm worried that I'm thinking it's bluffing but maybe he's in discomfort and sick and that's why he's biting. He pecks more then he bites, but he will squeeze with his beak over yo...

And when I first got Marley he was still being handfed and I'd never done it before! I think I did okay... he's still alive and seems healthy, anyway!!! I imagi...

It won't kill her if she doesn't get out every single day. Just as long as it's infrequent. Marley didn't get out on the 4th at all or the Saturday afterwards because there were just too many people opening and closing the door and I didn't want to risk him flying out. Then when we go on vacation he...

Honestly, central AC isn't that good for a bird in my experience. It's hard to regulate it so it doesn't blow near the bird. On thing you can do is get a cheap window unit (I got the one in my room for $80). You can control where those blow a little better. I used to live in NY and I don't think I w...

My IRN has a name!

My husband finally got to see pictures of our new IRN and we debated the name. He really wanted "Jamaica" but as I pointed out- I'd rather reserve that name for a more colorful birdie (or another animal we may get someday that's colorful). So we did eventually agree on Marley. So, yeah! He...

Talking so soon?

My lutino is only two months old and I think he's already picking up on talking. Not actual words, but chirps that mimic what I say. Every time I take him out of his cage I say "Step up". Well for the last day every time I do it he chirps twice at the same rhythm I say "Step Up"....

From what I understand IRNs don't usually get along in pairs IN THE SAME CAGE. So you'd always have to make sure you have two enclosures, two sets of toys, etc just in case they don't get along. I really would recommend getting just one bird. It'll be easier to bond with and learn how to care for.

Well we experimented this morning just to see what would happen. I had the dog and let Marley (I'm 90% sure that's going to be his name) running around on the ground. IRNs and Dogs

Do any of you live with dogs and an IRN? How do you deal with the two being in the same household? My roommate has a 4 pound poodle (definitely not my choice of dog!) who is NOT trained in any way. The roommate never even bothered to potty train it (and then leaves me to clean up the messes... can y...

Hi everyone! I'm Jaye, a new member and a new IRN owner. I got my baby two days ago (off Craigslist). He's still being handfed at night so he's pretty young. Also, I'm saying "he", but I'm not sure. It could be a girl. Currently nameless until I find something that really strikes me. He LO...
