I'm confused...

Post by tlouiselle »

I read all kinds of information to prepare myself for the dreaded bluffing stage. I have heard that the bluffing stage starts young but then someone also told me that they reach it around a year old. Sky is now 13 weeks old. We have had him since he was a 4 week old adorable little porcupine. At about 8 weeks he started getting a little moody. For the next 4 weeks we could hold him, but he was very cranky and nippy. His eyes would pin as a warning and he would lunge. He never drew blood but did break the skin. I had assumed that he was bluffing but was not sure. Starting Wednesday of last week he woke up happy as can be. He lost his nippy temper and he is a sweet, playful, happy, and lovable bird again. He wants to be with us all of the time again and will follow us from room to room if we do not carry him.

My question is: was he in the bluffing stage and could he be finished already? I didn't want to post this yet because I am afraid he is just in a "good mood" and do not want to jinx it because he is still so young

Ariahna,

I know this can be confusing and odd. But it seems to me you are doing the right thing. Just ignore any biting and it will pass--that's a promise  . Bluffing is a genetic trait that helps them survive other ringnecks and birds in the wild when competing for food and security. Just ignore it and continue interacting w/ your ringneck like nothing has happened.

Hope this helps:)

Best Wishes,

Thank you for your response :-) Ha ha the following day after I posted this he bit my ear while I was reading on the forum!!! He still has his very sweet moments though. He is mostly sweet and every once in a while turns in to a sassy stinker :-)
