Need information on behavior of a IRN ready to lay eggs

Post by Crusso »

Can anyone help me? Our Ringnecks have mated, and my kids have noticed that our female is just sitting on a perch and looks to be almost panting. Is this the normal for a female ready to lay her eggs? We are a little worried about her. She's usually aggressive, but is quite quiet now.

Hi there, does she have a nesting box to go get comfortable in? Panting is not a good sign, read up on what happens if they are egg bound. But sometimes they do pant before laying an egg, as it takes alot of effort. make sure she has a nice mineral block as well to keep up her calcium and vitamin levels whilst breeding...

Let us know how she is!
