they wont stop fighting!

Post by Lags »

hi,

i have recently introduced a new male to my female. I was got the male so Puddy ( lutino female) would have some company, plus hopefully to breed wen they are old enough. My problem is that all they want to do is rip each other apart! for two weeks now all they do is fight. we have them in two seperate cages, side by side, and they will even try to fight each other thru the bars!! I would appreciate if anyone can tell me if they have been thru this, and how it worked out. I can't see much breeding going on when they can't even be in the same cage together!!

If the cage that your female is currently in is the cage you plan on breeding them in when breeding time arrives, you might consider switching their cages for now. So that when breeding time comes, she is less territorial and he is more familiar with the cage and has some ownership over it. Also, you might want to clip her wing so she is not as agile as he is (assuming he is in full flight,) so that he can escape if she remains vicious. Once breeding season kicks in, she will be more excepting of him and after the season is over and babies are produced, she may remain more excepting, even if she regresses somewhat. When you do introduce them, you might want to keep an eye on them for a bit if it appears to be a large problem. HTH Jim

hi JIm,

Thanks for the reply. The birds have been in each others company for about three weeks now. I wont be breading them for a while yet, as the male is only about 4 months old. But in the future i was hoping to breed them, but things don't look to promising at the moment.
