Molting..

Post by Kristen »

When does molting season usually start?
Baby has just lost his two big tailfeathers and I've been finding itsy cute green ones (and some pink ones too!). However, both Ringo and Sweetheart have all their feathers and haven't lost any. Is there a reason why Baby is losing his feathers (he doesn't pluck) and they aren't?

Hi Kristen. depending on where you are located its normally after breeding season, so normally when it is starting to get warmer. It is normal for them to loose some feathers all year round but you can normally tell when they are having a big molt.

Well...I heard that breeding season in Michigan is in February or something...so I'm kinda clueless. Unless he thinks that it's time to molt now because the heat is turning on for the winter and I have a palm tree and some other plants in my room with him too?
