Re: What am I?
all of these weird terms you breeders have for the IRN mutations.... how do you present them to laymen customers?...
I see a green IRN with a blue tail... pretty interesting really.
If a seller told me they had a sfViolet TurquoiseBlue SL Edged Indian Ringneck I would go cross eyed at them

Re: What am I?
I agree with Sheyd, but the parblue component does not look like the typical patched parblues (Turquoise or Indigo) since the wing patch is not present, and the distribution of psittacins in the body is not homogeneous but patched. Could this be an effect of SL Dom Edge on psittacin distribution? ... or a different parblue? ... or an effect of Emerald? (There were some pics in the past showing this kind of patched psittacin in the body of young Emeralds)sheyd wrote:I would say sfViolet TurquoiseBlue SL Edged

Ok before I tell you what I bought this bird as let me upload one more pic and see what you think, don't worry about the bird on the perch as that is another mystery, here is the pic of the bird in question on the wire next to a Blue Turquoise CHWT hen

Re: What am I?
Hi Madas,
That's what I got the bird as, but never questioned if the turquoise was SF or DF.
Haven't seen the parents as the bird was obtained from a fellow breeder who didn't breed this bird, but the details on the ring tell me who it belongs to, so now I have to try and get some contact details of the breeder and phone him to find out. I also had my suspicions of it being violet when I brought it home and put it into my cage. I was wanting to pair it to a cobalt partner, but thinking now a better pairing will be a plain blue partner
Thanks
Lushen

Re: What am I?
Hi Lushen
pairing it to a cobalt will give you peace of mind whether its cobalt or not, should you breed a mauve turq then all questions are answered.

Definitely not a "Schoemann" its from a local breeder here in Wartburg in Pietermaritzburg, managed to get his contact details and phoned him, the parents are as follows
Cobalt Cock x Blue Turquoise Dominant Edge Hen

I'm too late for the puzzle, but I would have gone with Madas. Looks like cobalt turq (possibly DF) SL edged male.madas wrote:Yeah. Or simple SL Edged Dark Turq(df).Taliep wrote:Hi All

ROFL. You can ask 10 different breeders and often get 10 different answers for labels on bird coloration.
What I do know...
sf means Single factor.
df means double factor.
DF means dark factor.
(Different web sites decide which DF gets capitalized and which one does not)
sl means sex linked. Usually carried on the 'X' chromosome. In birds the females carry XY (Human females are XX) and males carry XX (Human males carry XY)
Male: "ZZ" Chromosomes. Also referred to "XX" to identify with human chromosome letters, for learning.
Female: "ZW" Chromosomes. Also refereed to as "XY" to identify with human, for learning
W (Y) Chromosome: Only carried by female birds. Typically does not carry color mutations.
Z (X) Chromosome: Carried by both male and females. Carries color mutations.
Re: What am I?
Guess it depends if the breeder is knowledgable ;)ROFL. You can ask 10 different breeders and often get 10 different answers for labels on bird coloration.
Darkfactor is simply known as Dark, and on the gencalc outcomes as 'D'
Re: What am I?
The grey turq edged is one of the most beautiful birds when edged is fully expressed (DF edged male, SF edged hen). Unfortunately I don't have other pics, this one was moulting.
Add emerald to that (with/without turq; still deciding) and you'd have a glimpse into heaven...

I agree, 10/10 , it looks excelent as if it had emerald in it.
Here is a "What am I" of a higher difficulty. who wants a go?

Come now Ben, at least give us a decent picture first. Only thing I can tell is that we are limited to pink feet mutations.Ring0Neck wrote:Here is a "What am I" of a higher difficulty. who wants a go?

Re: What am I?
That is a young CHF hen indeed.
In the first pic there's another CHF on the wire but a lighter color more what i would expect CHFs to look like.
The breeder that bred this bird has put Pieds into CHFs but no CHF Pieds were bred to his surprise.
My questions is Why not? Perhaps he was not lucky for the last few years, perhaps he did breed them possibly even Opaline CHFs however pieds and opalines in young CHFs might not be visible enough to ID the mutations?! no one has bred them yet so why not?
It could be the same for CT Pieds, i think they look like a normal CT only better colored.

Re: What am I?
Depends on the pairs he made up and the amount of offspring. In SA CHF adm pieds exist. It looks like a very faded/diluted adm pied with the typical CHF eye. Personally, I think the dominant pieds are better suited for such a combination.Ring0Neck wrote:The breeder that bred this bird has put Pieds into CHFs but no CHF Pieds were bred to his surprise.

It is a CHF hen you say Ben, what colour is it? Im sure it is what I previously posted. Maybe the two similar birds, one being a bit lighter coloured is a cock bird SF Violet Green CHF. I have noticed in SF Violet blue CHF there is a difference in colour depth with the sexes as youngsters.
