Hello everyone,
Sorry I posted last nights escapades under "Photo Forum." Don't know why I did that. But tonight isn't too bad. He's not wanted to be held. But when he did step up he did not bite! Which was nice. I held him on my wrist for a little while. But he wanted to just hang on the back of the couch. So I let him do that. He took off once and landed on the floor. So I put my arm down and he stepped right up and no bites. He was pretty cool while hanging out on my wrist too. He also got a bath earlier and let me use the hair dryer on him. He's hanging out on his play stand now. So... I was seriously thinking of doing the whole glove thing. Those freakin' bites hurt when he's digging in. Like I said, I've got two that bruised. If you took a serious look at my hands you would wonder what the heck I'd been doing. From all the bite marks and scrathes. He let me kiss him and rub his head and beak with my nose. So today wasn't as bad as last night. I just figured like you've all said, they have bad days too. And maybe his day sucked as much as mine did at work. So he was just going to take it out on me. I'll keep you posted on how tomorrow goes. But I am going to do this every day and get thru to this little bird that we're doomed to be bestest buds! Dang it!

It sounds like you are making progress though!

About the gloves, they will set you back at first if you decide to begin using them. Birds unfamiliar with gloves are terrified of them. Then once Byndi is nice to your gloves, it will be another adjustment back to bare hands that will take some time for Byndi to get used to. I think in the right circumstances gloves can be great, but in others they aren't needed. If you can't handle the pain and do go with gloves, don't change your mind halfway through training, that's all. ^^

That is awesome interaction Jen. As long as the fella is near you, that is whats important.

For the most part, birds WILL NOT bite when rescued from the floor so USE THIS TO YOUR ADVANTAGE. See his being on the floor as a perfect time to get a good step up in then praise the ever-loving dog snot out of him.

Well thanks for all the words of encouragement. The other day when he was biting the you know what out of me it was from the floor to my hand. He was being a total brat that night. I've got him on my........ I know, I know.......... shoulder right now. But he's as content as can be. Making tiny little noises every once in a while. And grinding his beak every once in a while. I just let him come on up today. I'm in a really bad mood today and just didn't want to fight with him. But he came right out of his cage--I have discovered a sly way to get him out. He still does not like my hands in his cage. He acts all freaky and throws himself all over. So I open on of his food bowl doors and then put my arm in and he goes right for that door and "sneaks" out. I then close that door and the door to the cage and then the chase is on. He "flies" to the floor and I have to chase him around before he'll step up. Today he stepped right up and didn't bite at all. Hung out on my wrist for a minute and then scurried up my arm to my shoulder. And he's been here for about a half hour now. No problems what so ever. Hung out there while I did dishes, is hanging here now while I type this. And he's going to hang here while I clean his cage and Milo's cage. So... He was cute last night running up and down the back of my couch. At one point he was biting the hell out of one of our covers. I asked if he was pretending it was me. He put a couple holes in it. As long as it wasn't my skin I wasn't going to worry. I'm going to hold off on the glove thing, seeing as the past two days he hasn't bitten me. Maybe he was just having a bad day. I'll keep you guys posted. Sorry to have rambled on so much.

I think we all enjoy your venting, actually. It's all the things I wanted to say when Hane was going through his biting stage, LOL!

Im glad you are holding off on the gloves. I too think he was having a bad day. All our babies do.

You do what you think is right about shoulder time and I wish you all the luck. Please, stay safe with that.
