Greetings to the forum.
I have an opportunity to adopt a lovely 3 year old lutino ringneck. I'm quite interested in doing so, however my home is currently overseen by Magellan, my 9 year old Nanday.
Although he is currently an only child, Magellan grew up with a pair of tiels, so I'm sure he will eventually warm to the RN.
My worry is the new bird. Is the IRN likely to warm up to my conure? Or will they spend thier lives screaming at each other? (Living with a pissed off nanday AND a pissed off ringneck would drive me to distraction, methinks.)
Thanks for any advice!

It would depend on the birds of course, but my IRN's like conures. Well, Mazzie tolerates them, which is as close as she gets to liking any bird.
Buddy will accept any bird who will worship him and preen his noggin

It depends on the bird, My IRNS have no problem with conures, and I have three conures and they can be a little scary sometimes, they do everything in a group. give your bird time to adjust to the new flock and keep them in seperate cages.

So, do the birds need to be similar in size? I'd guess something like a Parrotlet and IRN would not be a good idea, but an Alexandrian and an IRN might work? Just curious as I was considering another addition (if the seperate cages and social time worked out). Thx!

Its really about the bird.... some IRN's will tollerate other birds some wont. Both my IRN and my Alexandrine tollerate other birds well, but I do have to keep an eye on my Alex as she can be a bit nippy with them when annoyed.
Now, my female IRN will not tollerate any other bird. She spends her time threatening them and shrieking, and just being a brat to them. I have to supervise her carefully. The only bird she will tollerate sharing her space is MUCH too large to play with... my Blue and Gold Dayo
I do believe that a lot of it is in the way they are raised. We adopted Mazzie when she was older, but have raised Buddy and Alice from weaning.
Heres a pic of my IRN Buddy and my Alexandrine Alice hanging out on me (about six months old now)... you can see that they are very relaxed together...
It it great when they get along, but I always go into it knowing they may hate eachother
