My IRNs have a cage in the same room as my desk and computer where they sleep at night. Im usually in the room while they are outside of the cage. The other day, I was typing away concentrating on writing a report, and then suddenly my computer mouse stops working. I try the old 'bang it on the desk' trick, check that its plugged in, etc. Eventually I notice that the cord has been suspicioulsy chewed in the middle! Right where the bottom of the curtains are near the cords. Sure enough, hiding under the curtain is my baby girl IRN Sari, being quiet as a .... mouse. THANK GOD she didnt get electrocuted. She is one lucky bird, thankfully she chose to chew the mouse cord and not a power cable!

So a warning to everyone who thinks that their computer (or any electrical cables) are far enough away from the birds to be safe - curtains are the perfect hiding place for a stealthy surprise cable ambush.

Needless to say I realised that a naughty bird is often a bored bird, and right now Sari is safely trying to chew a pinecone while hanging upside down from some new ropes suspended above their cage. No more sneaking around in curtains when there is other fun things to do!

I find the hardest thing about owning birds is thinking of new ways to keep their little birdy beaks busy, what with all the things they can and cant chew. If anyone has some good ideas maybe we should post some.

We had to cage Chook when we weren't home because he loves to chew on television cables. I now buy him these enormous wild bird seed bells that are about 10 times bigger than him. When I go out, he is very content to sit there and try and destroy the bell that he hardly misses me.

PS: usually takes him about 3 days to total it.

we put a skewer through a hard plastic ball then hung it from the roof of the cage.indie does this thing where he hits the ball then ducks and weaves (looks like a boxer shaping up) it keeps him amused and us for a while.i will try and film it and post it as soon as i get time off work.
