Cage Obsessed

Hello!

I'm sorry if this question has been asked before but i have searched through posts and cannot find anything helpful.

I have a 3 month old Indian Ringneck. I've only had him for two weeks, he was hand reared and has settled in really well. But I have found he has become really obessed with his cage. I can get him out fairly easily with a little nip and then he'll hop onto my finger, i always give him a treat if he gets on nicely. But if i bring him over to the couch where i am he will want to go straight back to his cage. If im holding him he is usually right but if i sit him down he wants to go straight back. I live in a unit with an open lounge/kitchen etc and his cage is in there too. I wondered if it was normal for them to really love their cage, it's a great improvement from what he had in the pet shop so maybe i should be happy he loves his new home. But even when i do stuff to his cage he will attack my feet if he's on the ground or my fingers if he's in his cage..... He's a sweet little fella most of the time just not if you mess with his cage.

Any help would really be appreciated.

Mel

Hi Mel

I think he may still be settling in, and the cage is his safe haven. I have just moved house, and my guy is different now to before we moved. He is very scared when out of his cage, so I just take things slow. It will take him a little while longer to settle in I would say, but each one is different.

Someone else may come along soon and offer some other advice.

Regards

Shane

Thanks Shane,

You're probably right as I have only had him a bit over a week now. Hopefully he'll relax soon. In the mean time I'll give him to my partner while I tamper with his cage so I don't lose a toe or finger lol
