IRn new behavior problem?

my IRN is roughly 10 yrs. old i have had him since he was old enough to leave his mom, i finished hand feeding him myself.
he has always been his only true love. he loves to swing, and flirt with me every chance he gets, and he has always been very well behaved.
the problem.............2 weeks ago, he chewed his swing up, and i had to buy him a new one, he destroyed it yesterday afternoon while i was at work......he has lots of things to chew on in his cage at all times, and i share fresh fruits and vegetables with him every day.......any ideas as to why he might all of a sudden become destructive? i am going tonight to buy him a new swing, would plastic be a better way to go? he hates change, so i try and keep everything in the same place for him. any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
