New Baby IRN

Hi!
I brought home a weaned handfed baby IRN from a bird show. I'm a bit unsure as to the age. I could have been hatched as early as January. Anyway, I know the breeder I purchased it from, and she says that it's really personable.
Are there any specific tips or tricks to getting it tamed down? It's in it's cage next to my desk, and most of the time I'm writing, but I do talk to it, and it seems interested, and will hang on the side of the cage next to me. I've tried offering carrot sticks, millet, etc. from my fingers. It will lick at them. I know to take it slow, and I will most definately try the eye contact (lack of) suggestions.
Any other ideas or can anyone point me in the direction of good articles?
Thanks!
Mary
