IS HE A SHE??

Hi, My name is Sandy and I have 9 IRN's. I recently bought a 3 yr old albino cock bird, but the say so of the owner was the only guarantee I had that he was a he as she had seen him displaying a lot to the hens.
He was only $100.00 so I took a chance anyway. He is in with 2 hens, a 1 yr old and 3 yr old. He snuggles up at night with the 1 yr old, but is always in the nest box, tossing out the shavings and what ever else he does in there? I haven't seen any displaying going on at all. I have checked for eggs - NONE! I checked all the birds earlier and he is sleeping in the box?? I have another gorgeous Surgically Sexed Albino cock but I haven't seen any displaying from him either but his hen is working the box and he goes in now and then.

SO, WHAT DO YOU THINK??

I think sort of a 20 dollar DNA test, there is no way to know with a mature albino.

If you are interested in DNA'ing him/her. Let me know and I will provide you with information in regards to how to make that happen.

I do hope he or she turns out to be what you wanted.

IS HE A SHE?

Yeah, thanks Mikaela, DNA testing is my next step - I have all the stuff but it took a 3 week turnaround when I had my grey-green/blue hen done and I sort of want to get things happening so i was hoping his/her behaviour might tell its own story.

No such luck, my 2 yr old girl does all of the normal 'male behavior'.

I know she is a girl however because she has matured. She even has a slight ring. Go figure.

I have a male bird that sleeps in the nest box *with* the hen. Sad really she's a turqoise, her first year breeding and she smashied one of her eggs and now the others are just gone..

Hey I swear when I had a breeding pair that there were 4 eggs laid. One day I went out and could only see 2. Whats with that? Didn't see any shell anywhere. I thought maybe a snake got in but mum bird didn't move from the nest :? Anyone else have this happen?

The eggs could have gotten buried in the nesting material or one of the birds may have eaten them

I checked the box today and there are two eggs in it. I am so disappointed, I thought i had an albino cock bird and a grey-green/blue hen (she is only 1 yr old, so I am sure the eggs are not hers-haven't seen her near the box anyhow).

Well, atleast I know now and i will need to sell both the hens, unless anyone can suggest a coloured cock that would make nice babies with an albino hen, which wouldn't be terribly expensive???
Thanks for all your responses and if you do have any advice re colour pairing, please let me know.

A Pastel Blue Hen will go perfectly with an Albino Cock.

That way you can breed
Cocks:
Blue/Albino
Pastel Blue/ino

Hens:
Albino
Creamino

Thanks Jeremy, a Creamino baby is soooo on my want list BUT, my albino turned out to be a HEN, not a cock, so that pairing (pastelblue) in reverse doesn't produce creaminos unfortunately. I need advice as to which colour Cock bird I need to buy to mate with my albino hen, to produce the best outcome with babies.

Woops sorry about that

You can still breed Creamino's but you will have to find a Pastel Blue/ino Cock

HE IS DEFINATELY A SHE..........AND NOW HAS NEW HUSBAND

:D I bought a beautiful blue cock bird today for my, once "he" now "she" albino. Hope all goes well now. I also bought this stunning creamino chick 4 weeks old that I will handrear along with the blue guy, born on the same day that I already have and am already feeding.
Once I work out how to down load pictures and post them, i will share my lot with you guys. 8) Now I have a grey-green/blue hen for sale.
Thanks Sandy
