ive just gone in and checked my nest boxes and my lutino female and blue male have laid there first egg.not sure when it happened but it was in the last couple of days.
theres not to much bedding in there is it ok to put more in and how do i go about it without disturbing the egg.
this is the first year for them breeding i hope it all goes well

also should i be worried that shes not in there all the time.

It is common that the hen is not spending much time in the nest at this stage. She possibly has a few more eggs to lay.

Around the third or fourth egg she should start to spend more time in the nest.

With the nesting material, I personally would try to add extra material especially as the hen isn't spending alot of time in the nest at the moment. You could try adding it around the egg or if you remove the egg then add material, be careful not to move the egg too much. Some breeders place the eggs in a container of bird seed for removal to incubators etc., as the seed helps prevent the eggs fom rolling around, keeping them steady.
If there is not enough material then you could end up with chicks having splayed legs from them slipping on the bottom of the nesting box.

It also depends on what you call "not much bedding". Can you see the bottom of the nest box?

i couldnt see the bottom of the nest box but could see that there was only a thin layer,so i added some more, careful not to touch the egg,the female is not worried at all with me being in there as she was my original tame bird.ill check every couple of days and see how we go.

fingers crossed we get more and it all works out well.


what do u think the colours that this pair might produce
the lutino is split green and the blue male is from blue parents

Providing there are no other hidden splits, all bubs will be visually green. Males will be green split blue ino, while all girls will be green split blue.

If you have any other colours, then you have another split colour in there somewhere.

well i checked again this morning and we have another egg,this time i can see the bottom of the nest box,so ill wait till shes out of the box before i place some more nesting material.
this is all so exciting as this is our first time breeding
