Hey everyone!!!
GREAT NEWS!!!!!!!!!! I had Byndi's cage door open like I did yesterday. Well he was out climbing around and checking things out, like he did yesterday. Well all of a sudden he just takes off. Trying to fly. So I jump up to corral the dogs who also took off after him. He ends up over by my front door and my cocker puppy is right there with him. Boomer is trying to get Byndi and Byndi is just cruising around. So I go over and attempt to pick Byndi up........ NO SCREAMING, NO BITING! Just some resistance. Finally got him on my hand and he was a little spooked and he bit me--barely felt it at all. No real mark, just an indentation. Well he climbs up to my shoulder and just hangs. My husband is frantically trying to get the dogs into another room and lock them up. So he does and Byndi takes off again. So we do it again. And he's hanging on my shoulder again. Then before we can get to cage he takes off again. So we did this for about 15 min. I didn't want to force him to come to me. So I just sat on the floor and talked to him and he waddled over to Boomers kennel and got in on the inside. NOT GOOD. So I just sat in front of the kennel and talked to him. Well he climbed around for a while and then squeezed his body between the bars and climbed out on top of the kennel. So then my husband pulls the curtain over to keep him from going one way and I put my hand out. And Byndi suspiciously climbs onto my hand. Then he just hangs on my shoulder checking out my hair and my earrings. Had to take my diamond necklace off while he was on there. Didn't want to lose that. But I walked over to his cage and offered to let him jump on. And he hung out on my shoulder for a while and then went on to his cage and climbed back inside!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so freakin' excited. NO SCREAMING, NO BITING, NO DROPPING FLAT TO THE FLOOR! I was holding him on my hand and said, "Welcome to the family." I'm so happy. And I would hug each and every one of you if I could. So consider yourself hugged from Byndi and I!!!!! :D :D :D :D I've got him in his cage now as my husband had to take my step daughter home and I'm here alone. I don't want anything to happen to him while I'm here alone. But when John gets home the door's going to be opened again. I'm so happy!

I'm so happy for you! What progress! Do keep us informed.

I worry about the shoulder thing a bit but I trust you know what you're doing and will curtail that as trust builds between you and Byndi. ^_^

Melika,
You don't think I should let him sit on my shoulder? I know they aren't supposed to be higher than you but he was so cool just hanging there. I was just so elated that I didn't want to bother him! :D

That is an individual choice Jen.

I personally allow my older girl shoulder time because she is very well behaved and not nippy by nature.

However, I do not allow Baby much shoulder time at all because she is too unpredictable. She has spent time there but nowhere near the amount Peek-a-Boo does. As a matter of fact, Peek-a-Boo is having an hour of it now.

It is up to you. Please know a bite to the ear is very scary when it happens (abruptly) and they can be very painful. If you are willing to take it, go for it but IN MODERATION because he is already testing you. ALSO, be aware that a bite could permanantly scare you.

NEVER look at your bird in the eyes when on your shoulder, I dont have to go into those gory details. Eye contact intimidates them, you certainly wouldnt want him getting you in the eye to prove a point. A glance is fine but please remember, that precious baby is a wild animal, that is never going to change. He may be tame but he is called tame because he is wild and allows interaction with humans.

WARNING: When it comes to shoulder time, they spoil very rapidly and will begin to scream for it if given too much. That has been my experience.
