I can help you on what type, as long as the wood
does not carry any poison or disease.

When i was picking up my latest birds----the breeder there ONLY uses gum tree logs for nests. When i was there he had about 20 pair (at least)paired up.
His theory is that the logs being about 50mm or 2 inches thick offer more insulation and are warmer.
Having said that I know of another breeder that only uses nest boxes and is really sucessful.I think if you are going to use a nest box make sure the wood is nice an thick about 20 mm or 3/4 inch
Hope this helps.

Hi there,

I have a gum tree nesting log, and i give my pair the choice between that and a man made box. They go for the natural log every time for some reason. Might differ for others though.
