Hey, I have a green IRN named Mithu
He is about a year old

I just wanted to ask how should i start letting him out of the cage

firstly, when i open the cage door, he is afraid to come out, even if there is a treat waiting for him outside
secondly, i dont want him to fly away. (i live in an apartment)

he tries to communicate with me and allows only me to touch his head or beak so, i dont think he's afraid of me, so please help!

Hey, I tried getting him out by tempting him with a snack and he came out, but he started acting a bit strange and i don't know how he will go back in
last time, i had to pick him up and put him in, during which he bit me
any help please?

Then you should pick him up
& put him back inside  .

Only time will answer your
questions.. 8)

Just keep petting him on the head,
That should do the trick. Keep on
going :!: :!: :!:

Well, love, time and attention. :)
I would also do what you can to get him to a professional for a wing clip.

It will take a lot of training and effort on your part to figure out what works out best for you. To get Chiquita to go back home I say, “Go Home” and she goes right back to her cage because she knows she will get a treat. When you pick up your bird to put him back home say home and give him a treat. That is how to start out.

IRN’s so bite and that’s just how they are. It hurts I know but try not to make a fuss because they LOVE drama. The more drama you give them the more they will do this.

He will adjust and come out on his terms. When he feels confident. Just give him some time and go step by step on his terms, no pressure.

hey, thanks for the reply! :D
I now get him in and out every day, though i have to pick him up and put him back in (his bites are painful) :(

but, outside his cage, he is afraid of me and bites me if i come close
what do i do? :?: :?: :?:

Next time you pick him up, you should
place him on your finger. He needs
to learn step up, once you get him
to step up bring him into a small
room like a bathroom & talk to him
while he is on your finger..

small bathroom is so he don't fly away.

There is nothing you can do about the biting but to try to ignore it. I know that is hard but I had an IRN, Rascal who bit until I was bleeding so I ignored it and he outgrew it. Birds will bite when they feel scared, that is there only defense besides flying away which your can’t so right? I believe the wings are clipped?

no, i am still looking for a good avian vet in my area for a wing clip, it's really hard to find one here in india

and stepping up is very hard to teach i presume, because if i even get my finger close to his feet, he backs up or bites, and i don't want to scare him

I Believe Clipping Wing Is Bad Because You Taking Thier Dignity Away To Fly And BE Free in Room Instead of Walkin On Floor And Fly Short Distance :? :?

No, you can't say it is bad
because having them as
pets is bad enough...
so if you feel like clipping
there wings it really don't
matter. :) :)

we use an old perch for teaching bluey to step up as at the min s/he is still warey when we try and use our arm ... but bluey is doing really well this way and we use the stick to bring him closer to us and put our arm up sometimes to give s/he the option to go on if s/he wants but no pressure we are happy s/he is using the stick
