Teaching IRN Not To Bite?

Hi all,
I need some training tips on getting my Lutino IRN to stop biteing me, she mostly does it when we are doing step up, or if I am holding her on my hand she will reach down and bite my fingers or hands, she will let me scratch her head and back if hugged to my chest or on the back of the couch or T-stand. I really want to have a great relationship with her!
Also any tips on training her to talk? Thanks in advance everyone! Cheers Angela

Does she bite hard? Well all you need to
do is just let time do the healing because
overtime the bird will feel more comfortable,
Just imagine within one year from now how
comfy the bird will be. 8)

No actually most of the time it is not to bad, maybe I am use to it lol, sometimes though she tests her beak strength but has never broken the skin, so maybe I am better off thenI thought! Thanks for your help! Cheers Angela

My bird never ever bit me, S/He only wraps His/Her
beak around my finger & PRETENDS TO BITE.. .
Lucky me..

Well just let time do the healing.

Yeah she is about 3.5 years old and was bought tame, but was not messed with a lot as they were going to use her as a breeder eventually, But she is so beautiful and sweet I would like to keep her as a pet, maybe I will breed her at some point, I don't know? I jsut want her to be my buddy for now. She only bites me when she is perched on my hand she will reach down nd bite my fingers, but I can hold her against my chest and pet her all over, and same when she is on the T-stand, or on the couch, coffee table even in her cage I can pet her head, I just hope to get past the biting my fingers when she is perched on my hand! You are luck it is not fun to get bit, although I am use to it, my Lovebird breeders bite hard LOL, and I use to work with unwanted parrots most were screamers more so them biters, and if they were biters, you knew it, where Lily my IRN gives me no worning sometime she can hang out on my hand for 15 min before I get it other times 2 min. you just never know lol, It will just take some time I am sure. Thanks again! Angela Boland

try watching her eyes, if she starts pinging it could be an indicator that she is going to bite. I'm not sure what you can do to stop her actually nipping at you, maybe try to distract her with something else. I would also try limiting how long she is held to start with and when she settles down a bit try holding her a couple of minutes at a time longer.so find something that she really likes, give her this item as a reward when she is good.

Yeah I try not to hold her on my hand for too long lol,I put her in my lapwhile watching TV or T-Stand when I am running around or the arm of the couch or chair. As for the eye pinning, she is a lot like amazon parrots or Macaws, in that when you talk to her or petting her, she will pin her eyes, she also opens her mouth and tilts her head back with pinned eyes, she does not keep her mouth open though it is likea yawn kind of, it is odd looking but funny! And is really cute, my daughter calls her my pathetic parrot lol, she is one funny bird! So I am not sure if watching her eye pinningwould help or not what doyou think? Thanks for the help! Keep petting her, Her thoughts need to realize
you do no harm. You need to keep showing
her massages. :P

ok i think i have a solution... i was at the bird store yesterday and i held this IRN and he was being all nice like yours and s/he was stepping up and all f that jazz. then s/he was on my finger and s/he bit me hard! it broke skin and bled fr like 10 mins... not too bad though.i just ignored it.. but then s/he climbed up to my shoulder...never bit me once.. had to take s/he off once in a while to do a poop check but it only bit me one more time when s/he wanted to eat lol..

i was just thinking maybe you can try this... although maybe your ears are not covered so s/he might try and nip at that lol... just a thought.
