Smokey has a thing for my computer mouse. Now its not just the love he sometimes displays to it if I am using it I need to keep my hand firmly on it at all times, otherwise, as quick as a flash, he picks it up by the wheel and throws it on the floor. If I forget to hide it while not on my computer I soon hear it drop to the floor, and sure enough - he has thrown it there. I have to keep a napkin with me and cover it up so as to hide it. That doesn't always work as he knows what I have done and he pulls off the napkins and then picks up the mouse and throws it anyway. Why does he need it on the floor? Its not like he goes down there and plays with it. Once it hits the floor he looks at it then goes about his business. It's really annoying.

Chocobo will throw all of his toys off of the coffee table or outside table too. I believe he thinks it is fun to watch me (or the kids) pick them up, just to drop them down again. (Kinda like a baby throwing it's rattle out of the pram)

Yep Jordan loves to throw anything and everything off the tables or benches. He will go for the heavier stuff by pushing it along bit by bit until it gets to the edge, he knows, he waits and when he is ready he gives that last shove and looks over the edge soooooo pleased with himself. Its one of those IRN things I guess

Mind you, now we have taught jordan what NO means, and he understands totally. We can yell .. NO in a growly voice at him from across the room and he will stop what he is doing. Although he growls and bashes the floor with his beak, he won't touch it again. Its soooo good. Pickle on the other hand doesn't understand NO yet...sigh

Computer mice and pens and pencils are big ones, and mostly from what I gather because of the attention you are giving it, and not the bird

As far as pet birds are concerned, any and all time, is free time to spend with them.

Computer mice fall victim to almost all bird owners I know heh, tearing appart the scroll wheels or just trying to get them out of sight. Once they are off the table, they cant care less about it 99% of the time, same with pencils etc.

Bad behaviour needs to be dealt with, and often giving the bird attention right away instead of putting them on a perch further away can reinforce this naughty behaviour.

If your bird is flighted, this can be a difficult thing to solve.

With a flighted bird, if possible you need a boring, empty cage around with a perch in it. That becomes their sinbin for 15-30 seconds. I calmly place them in that, ignor them completely, and 30 seconds later I pull them out, if they repeat this instantly, its sinbin for 45 seconds, I will increase this time to 1 minute at most at a time. Quickly my guys got used to doing this... means i get bored and in a bleh perch if i do such and such an action.

You have to do this is logical moderation of course with flighted birds, as you can scare the silly things away from hands when they realise being picked up more times for bad than good... means being picked up = naughty perch... so they can become flighty from hands if you over do it, and abuse the system.

Thanks Fah, I understand what you are saying. It makes sense as he likes me to play with him and I see how the computer mouse could be seen as threat to the attention I give him. Maybe he sees my hand on the mouse and is jealous? He is flighted and is very good at coming to me, not afraid of my hands at all. He hates being put in his cage if I am home, so I will try it. My guys happily push everything off the table and watch it fall. They have a little wooden bucket of foot toys and they systematically throw them all overboard.

My lutinos just love my mobile phone. They have learned that if they bite it or jump on it the light comes on. They try and take it away and hide it so that I don't take it away from them.

I wouldn't mind my birds tossing my mouse away as long as they stopped walking all over my laptop keys. They stand facing the monitor and jump up and down on the keyboard. I am also missing F12 because Bird bit it off.

Also, I can't write anything with a pen or pencil because my birds grab hold of the pen and play tug of war. I am a psychologist and university lecturer so when I mark assignments I end up with squiggly comments on the students' papers. I tell the students it is parrot writing.
