Wow...it's been a whole year since I've been on these boards. It's crazy how life can get so jam-packed!
Anyways, I thought I'd re-introduce myself since I now have the time to be an active particpant. ;]
Last November I adopted a 1.5 year old IRN from a local pet shop. He was in pretty horrible conditon [they had him in a filthy cage and it's size wasn't fit for even a budgie!]. They poor guy was bald on his back, upper legs, around his neck, and on his wings from constant picking. He didn't know what toys were and was terrified of them. My little name-less boy was a wreck.
So...I'm happy to report that he's made a lot of progress in the past year! He got a clean bill of health from the vet, so I found his picking wasn't due to underlying disease. The vet said it was likely it was habit from stress and poor diet.
So, he's eating his pellets and seeds and adores fresh fruits [apples are his fav], and though he pretty particular about his veggies, he'll give out lots of kisses for a carrot. He also moved into an appropriately sized cage that he can actually fly in if he wants. Best of all, he finally learned to play with toys! He's become quite a cuddly boy and likes kisses...and though he still has some plucking issues, he's grown in some of his feathers on his wings and they're in MUCH better shape. =]
I'll look forward to posting here and hope everyone has a WONDERFUL New Year!
