Loosing feathers

Hi all,

Today I noticed that there are some feathers (small ones) about 8-10 dropped at the bottom of Cocab cage! I did not noticed he is plucking his feathers and also I know the molting time is summer and I have seen his first molting in summer.
Do you think it's normal he is loosing his feathers at end of autumn?

Cocab is about 1 year old (I don't know exactly his age, it's my guess).
He is very fun bird, tamed and just started talking about two months ago and developing his vocabulary very fast. :P
He eats almost everything I provide him and loves to taste different thing also it seems that he is not interested in sunflower seed like the other parrots and prefer other kind of foods.

So, Please let me know is there a problem with his feathers? :(

Thank you in advanced.

Cocab could be moulting because birds molt twice a year i think. hopefully more experiance people can help you

Indoor birds moult quite differently to our outdoor ones... so this could have something to do with it. Young IRN (before 3 years of age) have very random moults... they can come lightly twice, or heavily once in the first two years.... its sort of a mixed bag between the following factors... environment... diet... hormones...

Funny thing about IRN's (here anyway) is that they only moult once a year, shortly after the breeding season is done and dusted.

I would not be worried until you start to see patches of feather area not being replaced with pins (new feathers)...

Like all pets... unless there is boredom involved... or stress, its unlikely they are plucking.

hey,

Thank you very much,
I think I can see some new feathers are coming out specially around his beak. Hopefully it's not something to be worry about.

Thanks again. :D
