Hello everyone!

My name is Chris and I just adopted an "approx" 4 year old female IRN....or so the rescue thinks.

She was sent to the rescue because the owner said she was screaming all the time. And the woman told me that she was eager to find her a home because she was really SAD there. She was only there for 5 weeks and wouldn't make any noise or come out of the cage or let anyone in the cage.

Without any hopes I went to meet her...I had been looking for a quaker or a gray, but I was willing to meet her especially after reading TONS on here!!!! (this place is SO great!!!)

ANYWAY....I got there and sat in a chair in front of her cage talking to her softly AND SHE CAME OUT! AND got on my arm AND made lovie sounds when I pet her neck! Needless to say, she's been home with me for about 48 hours now. I'm such a sucker!

She has changed in leaps and bounds between what I first hear about and how she is now that she's here.

Chatting at herself in a mirror, mostly jibberish...
Chatting on my shoulder...jibberish
grinding her beak together on my shoulder
She did the "come here" whistle while I was petting her
she FLEW across the whole room to my shoulder
Light "get my attention" shrieks
AND when I talk to her she opens her mouth and "cries"
(I don't what else to call it...looks like a baby bird looking for a worm...WHAT IS THAT????)
She takes food from my hand

She doesn't seem to know what step up is
and she wants to nip when I try to get her to come out...
But she does come out on her own!

I am told that she says larry and whistles
And I swear she said something on my shoulder this a.m., but I don't know what it was...sounded like thank you?

I got her NEW food, she eats pellets with seeds and fruit
(the old owner only gave her seeds)

She seems really happy here...weeeelll GETTING happy anyway!
I'M SMITTEN!

So what is the open mouth thing
AND.....
What's up with her beak???

It looks kinda red underneath it all....but it's really rough, and blackish?

Could she be an African Ringneck????

THANKS IN ADVANCE

~CHRIS~

OH I almost forgot....when I got to the rescue and lady told me, it must be written in the stars, because her name is Chris! Isn't that funny?
I will have to change that....there CANT be two of me, that would be too many ME's for my husband!

I think maybe Kissie, it sounds like Chrissy?

First, a big thank you for adopting a bird.

You may well have an African there. Indians tend to have very little dark coloration on the upper mandible. They are two subspecies of the same species and all of what you see on this site is equally applicable to Africans.

Good luck with her. It sounds like you're off to a good start.

Hi Chris,
What a beautiful baby, I have a beautiful girl ( who I was told was a boy but wasnt) her name is Frankie B and she is amazing. IRNs are so intelligent its scary. Within a few weeks she was talking non stop. And what a show off. She swings from a chain in her cage from one foot and turns around to make sure Im watching as if to sayas if to say "look mum, no hands". They are the best ! Im sure Chrissy will quickly become the light of your life , you will wonder what life was like without her. Congratulations on adopting and not encouraging the pet shop production industry who are only interested in profit. Lucy
