I HAVE A GREEN CHEEK RINGNECK CALLED FRANKIE, RECENTLY I GOT A BABY BUDGIE, THEY TALK TO ONE ANOTHER DURING THE DAY, FRANKIE IS MIMICKING BUDGIE SPEAK QUITE WELL. WHEN I LET HIM OUT OF HIS CAGE THE OTHER DAY HE WENT AND SAT O TOP OF THE BUDGIE CAGE AND POKED HIS BEAK THRU. I WOULD LIKE TO LET THEM BOTH OUT TOGETHER BUT I AM WORRIED THE BUDGIE MIGHT GET HURT(HIS NAME IS MARVIN). DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE OTHER SMALLER BIRDS AS WELL AS RINGNECKS AND HOW DO THEY BEHAVE TOGETHER? :roll

You have to be very carful and supervise all outside cage interation they may become friends but this will not happen right away . I have smaller birds and they do have outside cage time with my bigger birds but only under strict supervision my ring neck and my cocateils are friends and they have play time together but it took over a month for them to get to know each other enough that they can play together out side their cages.

Hi there. I just moved your post to the appropriate area for you.

It really depends on the bird whether or not they get along with other birds. Some do and some just dont. This is where you have to be very cautious. Any beak can do damage to another bird, or even kill. An IRN can easily kill a budgie.
I used to have cockatiels when my eldest male IRN was young. He gave the cockatiels hell! He never hurt them but sure tried to bite their toes! He'd also escape his cage to 'steal' the cockatiels cage and kick them out. We were always watchful and he never did hurt them, just bullied them alot.
Once we looked after a neighbours budgie. My male was out of his cage while the budgie was in its own. Only took a second of not watching him for him to bite the poor budgies toe until it bleed. We felt horrible!
So it does and can happen in a second!
On another note, some IRNs just love other birds and bond well with them. There are alot of stories of how well some get along.
At the moment, I would be watching Frankie closely with Marvin. Let them get used to one another within the safety of their own cages, side by side. If Frankie is acting aggressively towards Marvin I would not advise letting them out to play freely for now.

thanks
