hi all,
i bought sunflower(or johnson as she is getting called alot now) when she was 17 weeks old from a reputable pet store, they are able to get most species upon request and have been a great help with birds(fish is another story)

now sunflower has been a very good bird, not biting much and listening when i tell her to come up to my finger ect but she has started to bight alot now and she seems to go crazy EVERY time someone gets the broom out to sweep up, as soon as she sees it she jumps away from it and flaps her wings madly and screams.

i have tested to see if it was just the broom and it is also the smaller dustpan broom and depending on her mood the mop aswell.

how can i teach her that the broom is not out to get her and more importantly how can i determine what happened to her in the past to make her this scared of inanimate household objects.

Your birds problems could be while at the pet shop when they cleaned the floors bumped her cage with the broom or mop. You can set the broom by her cage until she comes out and investigates it. Don't make a big deal while she is throwing her fits just keep sweeping or mopping and she will start to calm down. At her young age she will be fearful of alot of things so just try to introduce them slowly.
