im thinking of getting an adult female for poor kieron as hes getting very frustrated with general & riku hes is spending a huge amount of time displaying to them both spreading his wings in to a heart shape streching his neck out and caling to them
then getting angry and biting rikus tail both the littleys are about 6-7 months old so i figure by the time they are old enough to realise what kierons after the poor boy might go mad
so my questions are what do i look for in a adult hen as a breeder
and what colors would go best with him

Image

i thught id add a pic rather than try to describe his color this picture doesnt show it but his color is pretty much the same as the guy at the top of the page
also could anyone tell me the name of this coloring im getting a bit confused

oh and what size cage would i need for them to be happy breeding in
i have a quarantine area set up so that wont be a problem but i would get the required size of cage first
thanks

A Blue series hen is best for him. Do you know what color his parents were? Just want to establish what possible splits he carries.

Meanwhile, look for minimum two year old hens of the following colors, in this particular order of preference:

1. TurquoiseBlue Grey AKA TurquoiseGrey or PastelGrey
2. Turquoise or TurquoiseBlue AKA Pastel or PastelBlue
3. Grey
4. Blue
5. Green split Blue or Turquoise
6. Lacewing, Lutino or Cinnamon to match any splits of such that he might carry.

Make that Someday, Now!
It's a challenge to breed them...
and gratifying when you succeed.
You have the advantage of a tropical clime giantfoot.
So make your dream come true, Now!

bec you do relize you could lose him as a pet if you give him a female. And once a pet they don't always make good breeders. If your real serious about breeding then find a female that has already been proven and was never a pet.

hi donna
to tell you the truth i dont think kieron will ever be happy as a pet he just
he was an avery bird when i got him but he seems like he wants to be a breeder he trys to court every (the other day i caught him doing the mating dance to cockies in the tree outside)
not only do i feel he will be happier as a breeder
i feel riku and general will be happier if kieron isnt trying to mate with them then biting them for not understanding what he wants from them
breeding is not my first prioity here my birds being happy & healthy is

Unless Kieron is a Blue split Lacewing and the Green Lacewing is split Blue or Turquoise, it wouldn't be a good match. They'll only produce Green babies.
