Hi everyone, I have bought a new Indian Ringneck, It got used to me very quickly actually from the first day he let me pet him, but he didn't say anything, ofcourse talking can take time but not even a single sound is this normal? does it take time for him to start making sounds? Thanks

No it's not normal for a bird not to make any sound at all. How long has it been since your bird made any sound? Is the bird eating well and perching?

Hi, I have had him for 3 days now, he is still adapting to his new surroundings

LoL! Don’t be alarmed. Some ringnecks need a bit more time to adjust. As long as your ringneck is eating and drinking it should be fine; however, if the feathers are ruffled and the bird is exhibiting a runny vent/nose, take him to the vet immediately.
Nervous ringnecks can have diarrhea for the first day so— I would avoid fruit/veggies until your parrot has adjusted to its surroundings.

Hope this helps!

Hi, I think its a bit too late for that...lol I have been giving him sunflower and regular seeds mixed together and apples, he really likes apples, he is very very active, when I let him out he likes to go all over the place sometimes he lets me pet him and sometimes not, are they always active like that or once they get used to you they stay put???

by the way, how do I know the age of my ringneck? I know that he is atleast 3 years old cause he has a ring around his neck??? is there any way i can tell how old he is???? whats the average lifespan of these parrots? I read they live from 20 to 25 years??

Sounds like you have a healthy and typical ringneck adjusting to its environment. I would just keep an eye out and if you honestly believe he is ill—rush him to the vet. Birds are a master at hiding their illness and this is a trait they probably picked up to avoid being easily hunted or targeted. Sadly, most parrot owners are unaware of this and usually it is too late to save the parrot—better a checkup then having your parrot die on you. Go with your gut instinct.

As for how long ringnecks live for—I would honestly say around 20 years. Some can reach their twenties and some members have even reported their ringnecks breeding into their thirties. If you feed your ringneck a proper diet then it should live a long and healthy life. On that same note, unfortunately there is no way of telling how old a ringneck is—especially if it already has its ring. If it has a band you might try to track the breeder down.

Best Wishes,

Thanks for your feedback, I don't think he is sick, he is very active he flips in his cage and jumps from one wood to the other than ofcourse he rests for a bit, when I let him out he finds a good spot to hide and doesn't leave, but remember that now I have had him only for about a week, I think he has direea from the apples is this because he is in new place, but what I want to know is are they always active like that or they settle down after they get used to you? is it alright if I can contact you via messenger? this is my email

IRN's are very active little birds, sometimes I think I can hear their little brain ticking while their sleeping. They are always looking for something to get into. You have a 2 year old child in a IRN and they never grow up. The best behaved IRN is a sleeping one :D

Don't give him your finger to step up onto, put your finger right up to his chest/tummy, press and lift gently and tell him to step up. If you give him things he will bite them. If you're assertive he'll learn very quickly.

Are you around him all the time? I find Gigi bird will talk his head off if I'm not in the room. I remember reading somewhere that IRNs tend to be "closet talkers" prefering to chatter away when no one is around. Or it just might take him some more time to get used to his new home.

When he see's a mirror thats the only time he will make sound, when he sees a reflection of himself, and another thing, I get him on my hand and start to pet him and we are friends than the next day when he is in his cage when you wanna change his food he starts backing away like he doesn't know you..? is this there type or they change?

He's still getting used to his space, and you. Give him a little time to get used to your routine. Perhaps he had a bad experience. Each time you do something around him, and nothing bad happens, he learns to trust you a little more. :)

Our IRNs gaze longingly while their food dishes are being filled and practically push you over to get to them when you're done. xD

kieron does that too
riku is not such a lady
she play bites at my hand for taking the food & water bowls and for as long as im washing chopping & filling in the kitchen she is telling the world about how mean i am to steal her food bowls when i bring them back in she sits on top of the cage making sure i put them all back in she as i pt the first bowl in she climbs into the cage and then has to checkout every bowl as in comes in sampling all the food ones and standing on her head in all the water ons then shell choose one bowl , normally the one with brocoli in it and settle down for a pig out
