my names Briony (well der hehe) and as i write this im watching the bruise appear on my arn where my gray ringneck sooty just copped me a gooden:)

lets start from the beginning? i have 6 budgies, 4 finches and 2 ringnecks a gray and a green, both about 3 months old.
the green one is pretty good will get up on my arm with out too much hassle maybe the occasional peck but the gray one seems intent on causing pain, know both these birds have been hand raised (so im told) but the gray one had a child swipe at it in the shop before i bought it i know i can help it over come that but i cant even get him to step up on a perch let alone stop going out of its way to bite me....

also what shouldnt i feed them as they want to try anything im eating



any ideas?

Welcome to the forum, persistance is the key, trust will come with plenty of time spent. And rewards (food treats) for good behaviour.

Some offhand no's

Apple seeds
Avocado
onions
chocolate or anything with cocoa
coffee, tea and alcohol of course

Not too many fatty nuts, and try to keep away from the sunflower seeds, particularly the black. High in fat and they can (so they say) make them aggressive.

What else .. hmm ..

Some Good stuff;

Corn
egg with shells ground up once a week or so
soaked milk arrowroot as a special treat sometimes
capsicum
Hot chillie peppers are a fav. and great as a natural wormer
Garlic is great for the system (note both of those are bad if they go in for the kiss after eating them)
green beans and bean shoots
apple

these are the basics my birds love, they also love noodles, chicken bones (the marrow is their favorite part) they love to break apart the bones to get at the insides.

Treat and training food is dried out mellon seeds, they LOVE and will do anything for them.

Basically, if you know it's junk, don't feed it. We may eat horribly, but we can keep our birds healthy at least.

A treat for your bird would be the size of your pinky (smallest finger) nail. And that's just once a day! They're very small so what seems small to us is really a huge meal for them.

Ringnecks are little pigs and will eat anything you put in front of them. Lots of veggies is important. You'll find much more information than I can fit here in the Diet & Housing section of the forum.

Are your birds caged together or separately? Was there any movement you may have made to cause a bite?
We have to examine ourselves carefully to make sure we aren't the cause of bites- since we normally are!

i think that one bites more than the other cause of what happend in the shop
