Hello everyone :)

Post by bandgirl17543 »

Hello everyone, my name is Melissa. I have been vieiwng this site for a while now and thought it was time to post. First off let me say that this site is wonderful, everyone is so nice and helpful. I also really like the way the boards are laid out and how the site itself looks very easy to navigate.:) I do not have an IRN at the moment, but I have owned one in the past. I got one from a pet store , they didn't take care of her very well ,no one took her out of the cage , they were all afraid of her. Seeing as I have had birds since i was 10 ( i am now 34) I asked to see her out of the cage , I went home with bloody fingers that day , and a week later I bought her.Took me a good yr to get her to trust people , especially men. Also at the time I had a cockatiel and a closet converted into a screened in aviary where I bred finches, (My favs being the cutthroats). We also had a blue and gold macaw that was on consignment at the time ,( not my choice) We took her back after about 5 months .. So I was pregnant with my second daughter, my husband at the time ( now EX) insisted I give my IRN ( Chili) away to someone after only havin her for 3 yrs. He said i wouldn't be able to handle all the birds and the new baby . Needless to say I was a wreck . So off my cockatiel , IRN and finches went. I still have animosity towards him . HE has my macaw but by now she is his bird and only wants him.:( So I haven't had a bird in 5 yrs I work for a huge pet store in lancaster, PA I work in the bird room and the reptile room.I thought it would be enough to work with birds, but I find it's time now to look into gettin another ringneck. My boyfriend now, didn't really like birds till I started workin in the bird room , now he loves them and wants one as well . I am in the process of dealing with a bird rescue and will hopefully have my IRN soon. I decided to go with a rescue , because I would like to help out a bird in need. Anyways, sorry for the long post. I have learned soooo much from this site, I had my IRN back in the 90's and there wasn't alot of info on them so I had to guess on alot of things i did for her. Thanx for reading and I will post pics as soon as I get my baby . Melissa :)

Wow, what a tale. You really seem to love birds, so you need to get yerself a bunch! And as for the ex... give him a bird of a different sort. He certainly deserves that much.

:) Welcome!

Welcome to the board! I'm sure my post will be somewhat scatterbrained and unfinished as I have a headache at the moment, but I'll try anyway.

Glad to have such a bird lover in our midst and I think it's wonderful that you did so much research as well.
It's great to work with animals, but it never does seem to keep you from wanting another one at home, lol. I worked at an animal shelter- we came away with an extra dog and cockatiel. Had I stayed any longer I'm sure I'd have a chinchilla and girbils too! :D

I've been called 'birdbrained' before, but somehow I don't think this is what they meant. say:hah-nay

Thanx for the welcome Melika.:) I know how it is working for an animal shelter as well. I worked for one in New Mexico for 2 -3 yrs. I ended up with 6 cats and 3 dogs fostered puppies and kittens at my home on and of,f as well as some bite cases. I did dog training as well. We started out with one dog and 2 cats lol. Didn't last long. We had the space tho 2 acres of land and a big place. :) I have learned my limits over time though. I really did have too many animals then. :)
