question on treats

Post by kagaskritters »

If I buy the treat sticks at the pet store what size do I get? The ones for cockatiels, parrots?

Usually 'tiel size is best for the IRNs.

But consider getting something like Nutriberries or Avi-Cakes instead. Regualar treat sticks sold in most stores have extra preservatives (not all do but I like to be safe). And a treat stick the size of your IRN is like eating a stack of pizzas for us. A lot of junk with little nutrition. But the Nutriberries and Avi-Cakes are supposed to be a complete diet on their own, but your bird doesn't know that. ^_~

Some treat bars might use ethoxyquin as a preservative- avoid that. I do believe, though, that Lafeber's has stopped using ethoxyquin as a preservative in all their products. I would still check to be sure.

Our IRNs favourite treats are fruits though. Especially pear, apple, and banana.

I've been called 'birdbrained' before, but somehow I don't think this is what they meant. say:hah-nay
