Hi all
need to know cause Have lutino chick about four weeks old one leg has is deformed no claws other leg OK
Have I done something wrong or is this a genetic problem with in the parents
Parents are about 5 years old And are both lutino pure
Other chicks are all OK

Bruce It's probably just a freak of nature and not anything you or the parents did. Most deformed babies do not live due to other internal problems but some can live a long and healthy life.

Hi Donna
Have taken young IRN out of breeding cage as the hen has plucked all chicks
back of head also have caught hen clipping chicks nails
Starting to think may be hen bit of claws off chick
May be someone has heard of this I need to know why ?
Deit is very good fresh veg fruit every day Also has seeds ,pallets egg &
bescuit . Cage has caluim blocks cuttle fish clean river sand & shell grit
Someone said to me maybe she wants to breed again
Have anybody got any ideas

Hi Bruce I have to ask If this is your first time breeding this pair? Have they been breeding for someone else? I have heard of this as a matter of fact I have a breeding pair of African Greys that will bite off toe's if I don't pull them from the nest as soon as they hatch. Some birds just make better parents then others. I think the next time your pair have eggs you should pull them a day or two after they hatch and start handfeeding them.

This is the 3rd year I have breed this pair they have breed before I brought
them This is the first time I have had this problem
At the moment I have taken two chicks away from the parents
Both are cracking seeds also I put a grey/lacewing cock inwith them who
has feed them a very careing IRN The other chick is still in with both
parents the hen hides inthe nest when it sees me
