Aww poor lil Cookie! Sleep deprivation can make them grumpy, Jibs is not a happy chappy if he doesn't get enough sleep. Could be anything really. The environment just not right? Is he moulting? My 2 are shedding a fair bit of feather lately and they have been a tad on the edge the last few weeks. :(

Any new reason for him to be jealous of another creature - like a new bird? i notice my IRN definitely gets irritated if she sees me paying attention to another bird or animal.

Also mine seems to have a minimum amount of required human contact every day to keep her mellow. If she doesnt get her quota she gets snippy.

Also I notice that if I back off when she gets snippy she will become even more snippy, so i just ignore it and continue to pet her even though she is growling and like a pouty kid she USUALLY quickly comes out of it. Sometimes if it doesnt work after about a minute because she genuinely is not in the mood i then leave her alone. Dont know if this would work with your bird, might just make him angrier - birds differ like people...

Boredom can also make them grumpy.

Maybe mating season related?- I admit I know almost nothing about breeding...

i think it may have been a sleep issue we have had a rat in the roof which makes some pretty scary noises he has been better the last two days and the rat is gone, we dont own any other animals besides chickens so its not jealousy. thanks for your help.
