I have had my IRN for about 1yr now , it is a funny story how we came across her ( well i think it is a her), she flew into our kitchen window, with a borken leg. So from that day she has been my little sweetie. I let her sleep in my room so i could keep an eye on her , as she wasnt in a good frame of mind when hit the window, i gave her fresh fruit and pine nuts ( which i regret now as they are so expensive to buy) She slept in my room about 2months b4 she got aware of me and my family, she was always alowed how and got along with my partner and family members.

She lets me lay her upside down on my hand and tickle her tummy, she comes into the show with me , i can nearly do anything with her and she wont bite, but as soon as my family members come close she will go for them.

I have to clip her wings, since she use to drive bomb my parents when she was out loose. which i think is very ruel, but i guess it gives her more freedom as if shes out and cant see me, she will hobble around the house till she dose.

I love my INR who is called trouble and she stands up to that name aswell. I just dont know what to do about her biting everyone except me. is it normal? that shes like putty in my hands and like a bomb in everones elses...

And she also started talking a wee bit but i dont hear anything like talking comming from her now..

Could you please help me as this is my first parrot of any kind.

It’s very normal that your hen bites everyone else but you. She is bonded to you. In her eyes, you are her mate. This problem can be addressed by allowing her more interaction with family members while you are not present in the room.

Start by letting other family members offer her treats. Food is the way to any parrots heart. She’ll soon start to associate them with good food. This just takes patience and her willing to accept other family members. Although they may never be able to hold her like you do, at least you’ll make them both tolerate each other. And that my friend is a large step in itself.

Also, you wanted to know if it was normal that she let you hold her and pretty much do anything with her. The answer is yes. You have developed a strong bond with her, so much so, that she’ll let you do anything to her. This is very cool and it’s pretty obvious she enjoys your interaction with her. So keep up the great work and keep us updated!

...i had to go out of town for a week and my SO took care of my IRN, Katie, while i was away. he had to work for a couple of weeks to get it so he could clean her cage and feed her without going for him and biting him. she is very much attached to me, but is now tolerating my SO. at least she doesn't attack him anymore! heheheh. he can hand feed her now, but she won't let him handle her in anyway. we have had her for about 6 months now (she chose me at the pet store!). anyway, it will take some time, but she may only let you handle her when all is said and done. consolation is she will never be stolen!
