Scared to death?

Post by Clare »

I am just wondering if anyone had heard of instances where ringnecks were scared to death?

I recently heard that 3 budgies were scared to death by a cat and my ringnecks aren't keen on the parking dogs around the neighbourhood.

I have heard birds can die of fright. Heart attack maybe? I'm really not sure but that would be my first guess.

When Jibby is scared of something like a loud noise in the middle of the night he flutters around frantically. Then when I put a light on so he can get back to his perch he looks like a zombie and it takes him forever to move. Feel sorry for the poor little guys!

I think it is possible to scare any creature to death, mind you with birds there are breeds that are more prone to it happening, especially breeds such as kakariki, very fragile. I would also assume a tame IRN would be less likely to be scared to death than a wild untame caged bird etc.

I think it is natural for your IRN to not like the sound of barking dogs, but as its not a local direct threat there shouldn't be an issue with that happening.

:D I dare say he will get use to it. The first time Jordan saw a cat out the birdroom window, he freaked, now he talks to the damn things. And they aren't even our cats, silly neighbours letting them roam around free to annoy everyone else but them. Grrrrrr ~!
