Hi,

I am new to bird ownership and thought I should introduce myself before hitting the forum with questions. This is an excellent site for new IRN owners and I am so glad I found it.

Petey is my first bird and I got him (or her) from a breeder 10 days ago. He wasn't hand raised but is very tame and has never bitten. He is about 1 year old.

He seems lonely at the moment and I am considering getting him a friend, but am wondering if maybe he needs more time to settle in first.

Welcome to the family! Petey is so cute! I love your picture.

Irns can be fine on there own. I had my Jibby for 6 years without friends. (We had tiels when he was a baby though) Last November I got him a friend and I cannot believe the changes in his behaviour. Definately a good thing! But you don't know if Petey will get along with a friend or not. Its all up to them. Just like us, we don't all get along with every person we meet.

Maybe give Petey some time to get to know you first? Its all up to you.

A big welcome to the family :D and your baby is adorable !

I would give him some time to get to know you first or he may bond with the new bird rather than you. It will take him a few months to really settle down , become relaxed and begin to play.

So long as he has you, his cage, good food and his toys, regular baths and fresh water he will be the happiest little IRN :D

Congrats on such a sweet fid.
