Hey guys.

Jade has settled in well, but he's very skiddish.
he runs when ever somone goes near him, he NEVER bites, if he doesn't want your finger near him he will simply push it away with if beak.

most people would say have the battle is done, but its easier in my minde to "break in" a biter if you have tough skin.
with Jade running away, i don't get a chance to pat him and try to bond with him, he doesn't even allow his stomache to guide him.

any ideas on what i could do to calm him down?

Don'y worry, My Yoda was all over the place and a non biter, the first few weeks. I thought, great this bird doesnt bite! How wrong was I? lol.
We had Yoda in the spare room where is was quiet and a lil darker.
I continued to offer him foods even if he wouldnt take from me. Eventually he got curious and started snatching from me and running away with it. (and still snatches food of me )
I helped him if he fell or couldnt get up to his cage from the floor. To show Yoda, I meant no harm. I also just picked him up in a towel and patted his head like a baby. He didnt like this much. But it did calm him afterwoulds.
It took a while to calm him. I got Yoda in November and we still have far to go with him. Hes still skiddish around my partner and has a big attitude problem.
It all takes a little patience and persistance. Eventually they'll come around.
Was Jade hand reared? I'm guessing not. Yoda wasnt and its like taming a wild bird. My Jibby I believe was hand reared because I don't remember him ever being scared of anyone as a baby. Maybe its just personality?

Hey, I know what you mean, I’m successfully taming two ‘wild’ galahs at the moment, whenever I want to calm a bird down, and let them know I love them and mean no harm I take them into the bathroom, go into the shower, close the doors, (Then their is no distractions) and sit and talk to them....I also even turn on the shower and let them get wet, even if they don't like it, it helps to calm them down and even helps with taming. If you like, use two wooden sticks and do step up! This amazingly helps calm my birds down and even helps them to get use to me and tame them

Yep, the bathroom is a great place to calm them down. My 2 just love to sit on the window sill while I talk to them. I also like to warm Yoda up after a shower in a towel. Very relaxing for them.

I use a hairdryer, but ya got to be careful they don't have Teflon in them

And that they are on the lowest setting and are not too close to them. My fids love the hairdryer. They lean into it like a dog hanging out a car window. hehe.

we normally use the heater for them to sit in front of, all our other birds are doing well, but since Jade is doing this running away thing Amazon thinks its ok to do it aswell, we quickly snapping it out of Amazon he knows better, but jade is just funny.

Play the towel game with him, I read in "guide to a well behaved parrot" book, playing towel game can even calm down a rowdy amazon grey parrot, so maybe it will go better with your jade.

Its like playing peek-a-boo under the cover using towel.

Aww thats a cute game. I must get that book.
