Bathing IRN's

Well I have had my IRN less than a week so I haven't tried to introduce him to bathing yet but I was wondering if there was a preferred method? I know some birds like standing water and others enjoy a spray bottle or gentle shower? Is there any consensus on bathing IRN's or is it pretty individual to the owner/bird? Thanks -Jay

I think its all up to the bird. Some adore to bath others won't go near it and prefer being sprayed, some have perches in the shower. Then again like our Pickle we had to get him use to even being sprayed. So I guess its the individual bird and their preference. Trust I should have one that didn't like to bath at all.

The way I got Pickle use to it was to place him on the stand with our Jordan. He would sit there like a stunned mullet, until he saw Jordan lifting his wings and playing in the water so he copied and what do you know, Pickle realised having a spray bath was alot of fun

I have heard that some people will spray their birds while they bath, to make sure they get proper coverage over the back.

I tell you what though, when MBS strikes and you have a flock its far easier if the stupid things would take a bath on their own :x  , thank God my quaker pair adore their bath.

When I first got Indie, he hated bathes. Just hated it if I tried to mist him or anything else. He would actually bath himself in his water bowl but not let me assist. Go figure that one.
I purchase a shower perch and have it at the back end of the shower wall, every weekend I take Indie in with me for a shower, he gets the mist and spray and stream. At first he really didn't like this idea at all, but I was persistent on it and would give him a treat afterwards. He now really enjoys them and gets into it, and of course looks forward to the treat afterwards. But I still can't spray him with a water bottle.

I think its up to the bird aswell. Jibby used to love coming in the shower with me but hasn't liked it in the last year. My method was, just hold him under the shower! Just do it attitude works best for Jibby. :D He liked it. But now he would rather just follow me to the bathroom and sit on the window sill.
My 2 don't like being sprayed either. But I insist on doing it during the summer when its hot.
They bath themselves nearly everyday so I don't think I should bath them anymore than they bath themselves. Just when its hot and they need to cool down.
I think just don't overdo the baths. Once a day is enough I think.

THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT MY ROSE DOES SHE WILL HAVE HER BATH IN THAT STUPID LITTLE WATER CUP BY HER SELF RATHER THAN TAKE A SHOWER OR GET MISTED
SO I THOUGHT I SHOULD PUT A BIGGER FLAT DISH OF WATER SO ATLEAST SHE CAN HAVE A PROPER BATH
BUT NO SHE STILL HAS IT IN HER STUPID LITLLE BOWL OF WATER AND DOESNT EVEN GETS CLOSE TO THE WATER DISH

SHE IS DOING THAT AS WE SPEAK
LET ME RECORD IT AND UPLOAD IT

Thats very cute. Just keep trying a bigger water bucket. Yoda was the same. Started bathing in the smaller one but I only put water in the one big one now and he/shes got no choice but you jump into that one. I empty and clean it afterwoulds for drinking water. Jibby wont bath in 'his' water in the cage but my 2 seems to share the big bath I put ontop of the cage.

Same goes with Lovy here, she tried to take bath on the small water dish, but it is too small for her so she dump it over to tell me that "this is way too small!" So I decided to put the bigger and heavier water dish so she can take bath in it.
She prefer bath than shower by the way.

Well I am happy to report Bailey took a full sprayer shower yesterday. I had tried a few times to get him used to the sprayer be was afraid. But yesterday I caught him trying to bathe in his water bowl so I took him out and he was ready for the spray. He loved it. Too bad my 6 yr old tiel is afraid of it. It's so much easier than taking them in the shower, which is what I have to do w/ my tiel.

It is funny -- my own tiels LOVE to be sprayed and will actually scream at me if I'm not spraying fast enough. The ones I am babysitting just look at me like I have lost my marbles. Magellan is somewhere in the middle. Some days she is really into it, and other days she just endures it. Budgies are disinterested, while the canaries and finches like nothing better than splashing around in their baths (or any other water they can find)

Mine likes to take a bath EVERY TIME I change his water (which is TWICE A DAY!!! ) He walks through it, throws it all over the room and then waits for me to change it again! He doesn't like the shower or the spray bottle and next I am going to try giving him a deep bowl with little water in it to reduce the mess!

 My 2 love to dive into water when I turn the vacuum on lately. Jibby will sit all puffed up next to Yoda while he is having a bath and wait his turn.

Ajendra is around 6 months and i just got him a week ago. He doesn't mind me spraying water on him, he won't bathe himself and is a little lack on hygiene (only preens himself a little bit) which is better than being too obsessed (ie feather picking!).

Just see if they like water and batheing. If not spray him with a light plant mister with warm water at least twice weekly. Water is essential to keep skin and feathers healthy when living indoors.
