Hi I am back with a question
I have a female IRN and I suppose she is in heat. Can anyone tell me how long they stay in heat. I do not have a male. She is always trying to go up under my sink cabinet. She has stop talking except for calling my name every time I leave the room. I put her a box in the cage and she runs in it every time I speak to her. Thanks for anything you know about these strange actions. Sqeeki1

Thanks Donna I will try anything.
I will take her box out. I sure hope she gets back to her normal self again. She was always sitting on my shoulder or her cage talking up a storm and kissing me. she doesn't do any of that any more. I can't even let her out of her cage any more. Every time I let her out now she goes right for the kitchen cabinet. she will be three years old March 26. Has any one else had this problem?

Hormones are a part of birdy life. But we don't want to encourage breeding behaviour in tame birds. This is why we first need to remove the nest box.
I don't have a female. But my 6 year old male Jibby will 'mate' with his toy bell. He's not a problem when he's hormonal, just when hes in heat and wants me to leave him alone with his bell for a while. Once hes 'done' hes back to his normal sweet self.
I would remove his bell but he's not that much of a problem. I guess he just needs some 'manly relief' every now and then!
Birdy life is a hormonal roller coaster. And you will start to know when its 'that time of the year again'.
I can see why you would not want your female to be 'in heat'. But she'll be back to normal soon.
