Post by Gemstone »

we are woundering if having quails in the bottom to keep the place tidy would be safe for them or if the IRN's would attack them??

I'd be careful. Ive seen some IRN avairies with quail but some parrots can pick on them or even kill them.

Quail are usually compatible with finches, smaller or less aggressive parrots, doves and pigeons.

More info on quail..

Yes, she is right. It depends on your parrot’s attitude towards them. I have successfully house painted quail (button quails) with my Ringnecks. I made sure the quails had a small box that would only allow them to enter so for the female could lay her eggs. As mentioned, every parrot is different and you should keep a close eye if you choose to introduce button quails into your aviary.

The quails should only be used mainly for small doves and finches. Button quails cannot eat larger parrot seeds and will probably contribute to a larger mess.

Hope this helps!

You could try a few guinea pigs in the aviary they help keep it clean and keep the mice and rats away.

Not sure, I just read it in a parrot book. Havn't had any real life experience with it.
