My opinion and we all have one:
I like the wait, even with my human babies. To know, would spoil the excitement! I was told by everyone, including my breeder Baby was a girl.
I knew better from day one... that high, dorky looking beak. I just knew. So, I treated him as male. 1.5 yrs later, his ring is coming in.
Chicks may be better at this. 'Mothers intutition' but we are usually right, regardless of what others say. So if you have a strong gut feeling, or you partner does... have some fun, wait it out!
Boy or girl... it doesnt change anything once you know for sure... trust me. Nothing changes.
Gonna paint his room a different color? No? Then, doesnt matter.
I just remember thinking (upon seeing a red fleck on his neck), I knew my Baby was a boy! And never thought anything else of it.
Was I so happy he was going to ring out? Of course, would be a liar to say otherwise. Would it have mattered if he wouldnt have? Not in the slightest.
I would have been shocked after 3 yrs (and it would have taken that long to convince me otherwise) if the lil boy I was raising never got a ring and everyone was right.
But disappointed... No way!
Now Leno... cant be pulling those pretty feathers out poppy... dats a no no! Can he see or hear a TV? If so, leave it on. My birds actually watch TV. I leave it on the animal planet. Leave it on C-Span and no telling what he might teach you lol.
Get that fella some foot toys. Go to Wal-Mart and buy big plactic jacks that kids play with. Other countries have those? We call them 'jacks'.
Let me know if you aint feeling what Im saying.
He needs something to hold and manipulate with his feet. Baby is GREAT with his talons. My other two... they need a lot of work too.
He will grab one, go to a perch and chew it rather than himself. Another GREAT thing that should be in EVERYONE's cage, and this is according to Baby and Buddy... a strand of boat rope tied to a perch and then knotted.
Try Try as they may! But they CAN NOT tear boat rope like rope so they take it as a challenge! Keeps them busy for a very long time.
