Milk?

Hey chickies, was just wondering.. my Gilbert has taken a liking to cereal with milk. But he drinks the milk like its water! Is dairy ok for them? I try not to let him have too much. He begs me to share my brekky with him. As soon as the cereal box comes out, hes all over me looking in the box but will only have cereal with milk! Sometimes I 'trick' him with porridge. I put water in the oats instead of milk. But he has a bite and walks away. Oats with milk.. he'd have a bath in it if I left him alone with it! The only dairy he gets is the milk in my brekky. Is this bad?

Our baby loves to eat coleslaw and anything with mayo but the pet shop lady told us dairy is out so no more salad dressing for our baby.
but would like to hear what others say as like I said we only heard that is was a no no from the pet shop.

I tried to make mayo once...no dairy involved. Just eggs, olive oil, and lemon (or vinegar). Am back to store bought

Isn't Gilbert the one you're waiting on lab results for liver,

I'd stop the milk, every last lick of it to see if he perks up. Then try it again and see if you get the same results and then you'll know.

From what I have read and been told parrots are lactose intolerant to some degree. Foods that can spoil fast like milk and mayo should not be fed as the bird will not digest it right away it sits in there crop and goes bad. I know cheese and things like that can be offered in small amounts. I have known some macaws that like milk and will drink there fill and be just fine. None of my fids like milk so I don’t worry about it. Carmen (si ekkie) loves mayo if I am eating a sandwich she will eat only the mayo I no longer eat sandwiches in front of her because I am worried she will get sick.

It may take longer than a week but probably not the source of his problem then.

Sorry wish it would have been that easy of a solution.

Hope all is well with him.

they sell yogart treats for birds so I'm assuming a little is ok......of course they sell a lot of things for animals that isn't neccesarily good for them.

Lou enjoys a bit of cheese every now and then, but it's just the small preshredded stuff and i am very careful to how much i give him. I have no idea how or what he'd do. With my luck he'd love it, because he isnt supposed to have it. :P

Any results yet?
