STERALISING TREE BRANCHES???

ive decided to cut down a tree at home and make a "perch" for sky. we have just done that .. its nice and big and spacious for her..
Do I have to steralise it or something??
I have read some stuff about mixing bleach and water together and pouring it on the tree and letting it dry.. I have only read that about Eucalyptus (sp??) trees.. you know anything about this at all??
