The Serious Ringneck

For some reason, the picture of Bloobird facing the camera reminds me of those weird "serious" or "thinking" pictures you see of editors in newspapers or magazines. Bloobird, a blue cinnamon IRN, is exactly 2 years and 6 months old in these pictures from this past weekend.

Thank you for the kind compliments.

It's neat to see other Ringneck owners from the south bay. I lived in Sunnyvale for a few years before moving to Campbell. The south bay rocks, I've been here my whole life and don't really want to go anywhere else.

Ringnecks are so misunderstood. I could go on for hours about the genus psittacula.

Bloo's ring started coming in around Labor Day this year. There were little very light traces of it before, but I knew he was a male anyway because he was DNA'd. He was going through a molt in September, especially on his head...the first charcoal (Cinnamons don't get a black ring from what I understand) pins started right behind his beak. And less than a month later the ring was complete! His head and rump are also a lot more blue than they were a few months ago. People always say they didn't know birds "came in those colors". I'll bet Mr. Pete will be just the same.

Here's some other pictures of my birds:

I've taken hundreds of pictures, but Flickr will only accept so many before you have to pay. Argh.

Have fun!

Hi Wagnerov!

We actually had Pete DNA'd 'coz he's doing both male and female behavior...turns out that he's a SHE...so no ring for us! It still confuses me 'coz i can see a grayish outline on her neck and eyebrows...guess i better wait for another year to be definitely sure.

By the way, gorgeous pics...

All the birds are beautiful but as you can see from the avatar and signature I must say I am smitten with Bloobird.
However I must say that derbyan comes in a close second.
What markings. It's fantastic.
