Help, with bird interaction

Kiwi doesn't seem to like me. When he finally steps up, he wants off. I work at home, so he's always on his cage. He doesn't want to stay on me. He seems afraid and unaffectionate. I try to get him to talk, but the only time he practices is when I'm in the other room.

How do I get him to want to be my buddy?
How do you teach birds to talk?
Any additional advice appreciated.

Thanks,
Bird Brain

P.S. This is my first bird. I have had him 2 months. Kiwi is 7 months old.

Hi. First let me and Caruso, my IRN welcome you and kiwi to the world of IRNs.

Second:
he's always on his cage

Then that might explain it. You see, the cage is his SAFE haven. It’s HIS territory.
Maybe you should try taking him into a different room, away from his cage. Then work and play with him.

Third:
How do you teach birds to talk?

You could try saying ONE word over and over again and record it on a tape or cd. Then play it all day for him.

P.S.
please post pics of your IRN.
