Bigger or smaller based on color? (just a theory)

Something I noticed I was at the pet store the other day and they have normal green’s and latinos. Well they are all older than George (turquoise grey) but George is much bigger. I remember someone posted here about a grey being bigger than there bird, so I began to wonder. Are the birds difrent in size based on color? Anyone else notice this? I think it would be neat if we could do a little research into this and see if there is any merit to it.

You know what... this is a VERY interesting question. I know Baby is thinner than most males and have been concerned as to why. Mind if I move this over to the breeding forum?

Excellent question hun. :D

Jeremy will be able to tell us in a good explantion, as maybe others here can to.

Some new sex linked mutations will be generally smaller and weaker.
Also, inbred and line bred birds will be a little smaller than other birds.

But generally it just depends on the size of the parents, the birds diet etc.

Oh ok thanx. Just thought id ask because George is rather big compared to other irn’s even ones that are 1 year or more in age, he is only around 6 months old now. There is a latino that has a ring and is much smaller. Thank you for the info.

Oh also, so you think that since I got George at a young age and put him on a good diet that might have contributed to his size as well?

I think they slim off and become more sleek and defined as they mature. Thats what I am noticing is happening with Jordan anyway. Maybe its just the baby bird adult bird thing you are seeing.
