I don't know if any of you liked or even cared about Steve Irwin, but I had a massive amount of respect for him. He was so very passionate about all animals and their well being that I couldn't help but respect him. It comes as a shock that he is no longer with us. And it makes me very sad. I can only imagine how his family and friends are feeling and I wanted to pay my respects this way. I only hope they take solice in knowing that he died doing what he loved. And I hope his wife can find the strength to carry on in his name.
RIP Steve!
Sadly,
Jen

What Matt said is actully true, he was 'attacked' by his father's parrot as a child and never could shake the fear.
On sight of a bird, he ran like a little girl.

RIP Seve
I am just watching the Memorial Service live from Australia Zoo - it has only been on for 15 minutes and so far I havn't stopped crying. Every time they put the camera on Terri it is just so sad!

Ditto. I kept trying not to cry because mt bf was sitting right with me watching too but it was impossible. And sweet lil Bindi's speach...she did sooo well but I totally lost it then. My heart still aches for him and his family. Thinking about it now still puts some tears in my eyes.
A little late and no offence

A lot of people I have talked to won't really miss Steve.
I know it sounds cruel and heartless and what not, but it wasn't like he sat quietly by as the crocodile swam around...he jumped in, wrestled, tied it up with rope, and then invaded it by poking around, showing viewers at home close ups of it's teeth.
I agree that Steve has done great hings for animals, bringing about knowledge and recognition like never before...but there are rumours.
A few people think that they will never show the footage they were taking when Steve died, it would be morally questionable, but they also think that Steve was 'harrassing' the stingray, trying to demonstrate just how quick they are with the barb, and was simply not quick enough.
It was very sad, and shocking to think that someone who seemed so invisible would die by something considered off-hand as a threat, but I am actually surprised he didn't find himself seriously injured ages before all this.
