Hurt baby tiel (at the pet shop)

Ok so I go to the local pet store to get some food and new chew toys for my fids. Well im looking at the birds they have and I see a male tiel that is a grey and a latino, his face, body and the two center tail feathers are latino the rest normal grey. so I go to pick him up and immediately notice he has a problem with his right wing, its an open fracture near or posibly of the joint proximal to his body you could actually see the bone sticking out :( I let the clerk know; she put him in a smaller cage so he could be alone and relax. They had no hospital box :x . She said they would have there bird person look at it in the morning and then decide what to do with the bird:x. I told them to call me after they take care of the bird tomorrow.

Im thinking of getting him I mean if he is hurt that bad he may not be able to fly and be normal so not that many people are going to want him. Normally I do not go for the mixed birds or the ones whose feathers are not nearly perfect (just a thing with me) but this little guy is just to cute. I hope he is ok and does not get an infection. im thinking of getting yet another bird. I have one male ng tiel right now he is older and a little sweetie I hope two males can get along I don’t see a problem but you never know.

What do you all think? Should I get the little guy?

i dunno.Im thinking dont let the petshop think its ok to leave the birds like that, but then i can see why you would want to save him. What condition were all the other birds in?

They would be receiving a visit from my Local PETA Association this morning, as well as my local human society.

I would have PETA in front of that place this morning. I have them on speed dial. Many housewives with not alot to do so they sit and wait for a place to mess with.

Well up until now iv never really thought they were all that bad never thought they were good either, I get all my stuff from there including my birds. I have no idea how the bird got hurt neither do they. All there other birds are fine. What I don’t like is the fact that there birds are kept in wooden boxes with no tops so the birds can’t see out and people just hover over them. They had a cag for a wile sitting in a box with just one toy. When I got George from them he was kept in an aquarium with no perches. You know the more I sit here and right the worse this place sounds. I am waiting for them to open so I can check on the little guy. If I have to take him to a vet myself ill gladly do it. Poor guy just has to sit there and suffer like that.

I don’t think we have a PETA here if so its not that big or active. I know that the military considers it and green peace to be a terrorist organization and will not let military members and there families belong. This being an 85-90% military town not that many people here could join. Were can I find info so someone can check out this place and decide if there are doing things right. The only other experience I have with pet shops is with a place in California run by a retired avian vet who sells birds now. His place was wonderful.

You live in Fayetteville? Jacksonville? or Greensboro?

Bragg Blvd ring a bell? *dies laughing* CBD loop? Reaford Rd? lol

Army is in Fayetteville, Marines are in Jacksonville and the Navy is in Greensboro.

At 80 percent military it is either fayetteville or Jacksonville. The other bases are mute compared to those two.

Im from NC so really familiar with the bases. Lived on one for a short time. It didnt work out between the guy and I soooo.

Jacksonville im a Navy Corpsman for about two more days then it’s off to school for me.
I don’t really know this area all that well ive been deployed to Iraq so much when I do get the chance to be home its busy time getting work ups done for the next trip over.
Other than that im on leave to see family and friends. Now that im getting out of the military I cant wait to get away from this town, this place is horrible I really cant stand it at all.

Ok the pet shop just called.
The clerk I spoke with actually called there bird guy last night. He came in, looked at the bird, and took care of him last night not sure what that meant. Well he did go see the vet this morning turns out its just a bad cut and the little guy has a birth/hatch defect so it looked worse than it is.

I did call the vet and talked to him I told him that I was interested in the bird. He told me the same thing the pet shop did and that if I get him I will just have to watch for signs of infection but he should be just fine. He will never fly, as he is incapable of growing flight feathers do to the deformity. Im not to worried about that all my birds are clipped and can only flutter. I supervise them when they are out especially my two lovies, they cause trouble every chance they get. I have ladders from the floor going all the way to the play gym so as long as the little dude can climb he can get anywhere in the bird room.

Well here he is. What the vet told me about a birth defect makes since, he is missing the part of his wing that contains the flight feather on both wings. I have stuff to clean the wound, and I will be doing frequent check ins with the vet to make sure everything is healing ok. From what we could figure out the other tiels were picking on him so that is why it started to bleed.

My daddy says not to flap my wings cause it might make them start to bleed again, but its so much fun im a bird its what im supposed to do. I don’t understand why I cant fly like all the other birds.

Yes im in a box I cant get out, but don’t I look beautiful. Daddy kept talking to me the entire way to this new place I don’t know why. He seams worried about me for some reason.

Im told ill get an even better new home but its coming from some place called e bay I don’t know were that is but it sounds far away. I like this home, but why cant I play with the other birds. I know there here they keep returning my calls, they say its fun here with lots of treats and a big play area with lots of toys why cant I join them.

He worries me, he is very energetic and keeps trying to fly of course he cant and its so sad. I only hold him if im sitting on the floor with him above my lap I don’t want him to get hurt because of a fall.

Well he is sweet, and very cute. He needs a name I can’t think of any that fit. A friend of mine thought Stubbs was a good name, but it doesn’t fit him. Any ideas?

He is probably a lil character and might have broken it playing.

Yay! We saved yet another one!

3 times and every one of them had its terrifying moments. I also have fond memories of friends I made over there.
