New 2 the room

Post by sukiandme »

Hi, I'm new on the block. I just bought my baby Suki last friday and boy oh boy do I have question! Well the first of all the first 2 days he would not eat or move. Finally i got him to eat and he now moves around the cage and plays with the toys inside of the cage..... but he has not make a peep! No noise what so ever..... My family seems to think he's a mute..... IS THIS NORMAL?? And as for handling, he will step up, but hates to come out of the cage! And doesn't like to be touched @ all. He's about 3 months so can i get some advice?

hello and welcome :D give him/her sometime to adjust to new surroundings and people.it is normal for them to not make noise or want to come out just yet. just sit with cage door closed and talk to suki for a little bit till he/she gets used to you being there.

Hi and welcome! It does take a while before they feel comfortable enough to vocalize. Some of us would give arms and legs for peace and quiet!

Well it's good to know that Suki is normal. I guess I'm use to the noise of a cockatiel (very noisey). I guess I'll begin to work with him and hopefully he will resond positively! If i have more issues believe me U WILL HEAR ABOUT IT. It's a great feeling to know that there is a real support system out there

Start out like you intend to finish

Post by Bird crazy »

I just brought my baby blue home in the end of June and he was about 3 months old, it took him about 3 weeks until he made a peep and when he did it scared him. But if you have speakers with your computer go to the video site on here and play a few of the video's and my Nila chirped when he heard the other IRNs. I made sure I praised him for the first few days when he chirrped then I remembered a very good piece of advise my sister gave me about raising children:
Start out like you intend to finish. Don't start out encouraging bad habits that may annoy you later if you do not want to be annoyed later. :D

Enough said. When your are praising your little darlin just stop and think if he does this every time I'm near him or every time I leave the room or everytime someone comes in will I still think it's cute.

Sue and Nila who just spent the weekend at the neighbor's while I was out of town and chirped all day every day to her and her hubby.
