Okay, I know not a lot of people (if any) have had luck with their irn not minding the Feather Tether on but I'm going to try it anyhow (I don't care for the looks of the Flight Suit). I have to order it online (because the stores don't carry it in pink!) I am wondering if irn's would be a petit or a small?

I wish they made normal tethers (like falcons have) for irn sized birds (I may even find a falcon store online and order some of those). I take my Baby outside on walks and around town so much. She has her wings clipped but just in case there's a slight chance of her flying or fluttering off...I won't risk it! She does like to jump off me and fultter and bust her bum on the ground.

Why don't you try the flight suit instead? I've heard it is easier on the bird

I too have only heard bad things about them but have never tried them. If your bird is clipped, it doesnt need one. If it isnt... I wouldnt trust a device like that ANYWAY.

*whimpers* The Flight Suit is just not cute looking at all in my opinion. It looks like more of a pain to get on the bird than a harness. How is it better? Just looking for opinions. Thanks!

Does the FT hurt the birds? Why do they hate it and not the FS??

Actually it is a lot easier, instead of having to place things OVER the birds head you place them in feet first...they don't feel as threatened...

Still I don't want to get the snot torn out of me by Prin so I don't risk it

You guys! I'm gonna get it, try it, and if she hates it I'll return it. I know, I know....I've been warned!!

Buddy wears a small. Yes, he does wear it. He doesnt LIKE it, but he wears it because he is fully flighted (and has been all of his life except six months .. he was clipped to appear on TV ) and I like for him to still be able to explore outdoors. Flight cages just arent enough.

Alice has one too, she wears it, and she too has a tantrum. But, tantrum or no.. I prefer safe.

FT's are fine for small guys... no good for bigger. I havent had a big bird want to wear one yet. We designed our own harness in desperation for the bigger, which works, but a new one came out recently that we really like for them which is easier

I just dont see the point of wearing one if the bird is clipped, which I think I remember it being (try to remember all my babies).

Hun, that bird wont leave your shoulder and even if it did it would just flutter to the ground. When I have Baby out (more than not) I am just VERY CAUTIOUS of anything that might spook him.

Let me tell you what I mean. When we walk through a parking lot or near the street, I make him step down onto my finger as to have better control of him. I can see him, what he is thinking and how he feels. Thereby, calming him before he flutters. My fear: Him fluttering in the path of a car.

So, as you have said, like me, you have anxiety so if it makes you feel better to have her leashed and clipped then you do what you need to do!

Mik...haven't you read stories of a clipped bird still able to get flight??? I know I have...and it scares the daylights out of me...better safe than sorry...

Yes, this is what my neighbor was telling me. One of her neighbors (when she lived in Michigan) had a clipped macaw and it somehow flew off. This is the only reason I worrry.
Plus, the way she looks intently at trees on our walk...lol

The other night we were walking around the lake and walked by a great white egret. It stood up, flew off, and spooked the heck out of Baby! She fluttered off my fist but I jum ped and grabbed her before she plopped on the cement walk way. *sigh* My child.

I got a feather teather and let me tell you, Remmi tore the snot out of me and the teather. He was so intently biting the teather that when I "THOUGHT" I actually FINALLY had it on right and sat him down he fell to his back cuz he was holding so tightly to a piece of it and biting it he didn't realize. I haven't tried putting it back on since. May just hold him w/ it near us. So he can check it out. Who knows. Or may just give up on the idea period. But he's so skitty at EVERYTHING that I know if I try to take him for a walk he'll spook and fly. Try to anyway. So....

Oh yeah, I too have a feather tether for Nila.
And I too have had no success getting him to wear it.
But I think I am making progess. The hard part was
figuring out how to put the thing on him. I think I have it figured
out but have been unsuccessful actually doing it. But he
is not so freaked out about getting the loop over his head now.
He waits until it's over and gets hold of it so I can't tighten it
and he holds on and I cannot hook it closed. I'll keep you posted
if I ever get the thing figured out. I do this towel thing with him
so he's not afraid of a towel over his head and that only took a
few goes at it but this is a whole different story. I too am afraid
of him fluttering off my hand when frightened and being injured
by a passing car or a dog being walked.
