African ringneck owner here!

Post by phoebebird »

Hi! I'm new here and unfortunately could not find a site with African ringneck info, so here I am! I have a 9 year old female african ringneck named Phoebe. She is very sweet but is not tamed because we got her when she was 3 and she's wild caught (the vet could tell because she had a metal band on her foot). I was 15 when we got her and didn't know she had had such a hard life! Well, atleast now she is comfortable here and she loves her mirror and toys. She likes to jump out of the cage and play on the carpet and the come back in as she pleases. She is also almost fully potty trained, and she goes back in her cage to poop! I can pick her up with a wood perch, and I can put my face up close to hers without a problem. She's just frightened of fingers, which is probably from people grabbing her. If you have any info. on african ringnecks let me know, because they seem to be less common. Bye!

Hello

She sounds very good for an untamed bird! I wish Datsun went back into his cage to go potty!

I would love to see a photo of her if you can put any on. What are the differences between African and Indian?

Have a great day!

Hi! Yes, she is very good for an untame bird. Phoebe is green, and the main difference that I can tell between the two is that her beak is more plum colored, and indians' beaks are orange. And apparently African ringnecks are a bit smaller, but they have a proportionally longer tail. Also, I noticed when listening to the sounds IRNs make on this site, they sound pretty different from Africans. Phoebe is much louder, but she still pins her eyes and coos when she is excited.

Unfortunately I dont have a website so I can't put pictures up for now, but I will try to get some. Thanks for the reply!
