How my morning started.... It was 3:50 a.m. and my husband is getting up for work. I roll over and try to get back to sleep. I think to myself, my gosh it must be raining like crazy, listen to that. John comes flying back into the bedroom, I ask what's wrong. He throws open the bathroom door and guess what???? Our stupid hot water pipe to the sink busted and we had hot water spewing from under our sink! The floor was SOAKED and steam was rising from the carpet from the water being so hot. So he runs downstairs to turn the water off and of course it's spewing all over in the basement too. So here I am at 4 a.m. running the carpet cleaner trying to soak up all the standing water that I could. And now tonight we're going to have to rip all the carpet out of the bathroom and pray the floor isn't damaged. We think it could only have been spewing for the longest 45 min. And it's our anniversary weekend. Woohoo! Happy Anniversary to us! He doesn't want to rip the carpet out cuz Lord only knows what's under it. And I say we have no choice, the padding is going to mold and be nasty cuz we won't be able to dry the padding. So we've been fighting about that. But we've come to an agreement that we aren't going to fight anymore cuz it's our anniversary weekend. But I'm telling you... Sometimes being an adult aint all it's cracked up to be!!!!!!!! Happy Friday!
Well I know how you feel! The other day my husband noticed that the carpet was buckled a little and making a popping sound. I didn’t really think much about it since after almost 10 years, carpets do tend to need to be re-stretched. The next day my husband steps barefoot on the same spot and now notices it is damp, I can’t tell you how many times I walked barefoot over that spot, it is the doorway to our bedroom and I never felt anything. Well we opened the hot water closet (idiot builders put the darn thing in the hall closet next to the furnace) and sure enough the hot water heater is leaking. We turned off the water to the heater, but somehow, we couldn’t figure out how, water kept leaking out of the darn thing even after we drained it!!!! Well yesterday my Dad and my Father-in-law replaced it for us and every since we noticed the leak we have been running the carpet cleaner as well and soaking up the water out of the carpet with towels. Well the carpet FINALLY feels dry, however that same spot that we first noticed the little buckle, well it is bigger now and hard. Our entire house has lament wood flooring under the carpet. When we moved in almost 10 years ago, we did not realize this because the people before us had four kids and beige carpet. Needless to say with four kids, the carpet needed to be replaced, so we replaced it with dark green carpet and when the carpet installers came that is when we found out the entire house had this nice flooring underneath, however it was too late then, because I had already paid for it, so we just recovered it. ANYWAY…. Now I am guessing that hard lump under my carpet is probably the wood all buckled up. Luckily it is just a small spot in the hallway, so I am hoping my Father-in-law who is VERY handy can lift up the carpet and maybe we can repair that one patch. If not, then I could always just tear up the carpet in just the hallway and replace it. I guess it is the season for hot water heater problems!!!!
